Legendary playback singer S Janaki, fondly known as the ‘Nightingale of South India,’ left behind an extraordinary musical legacy spanning more than six decades as she passed away on July 11, 2026 in Mysuru at the age of 88. Born on April 23, 1938, in Pallapatla village near Repalle in Andhra Pradesh's Guntur district, she recorded thousands of songs in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi.
