Arijit Singh, the National Award- and Padma Shri-winning vocalist, shocked fans of Bollywood music by announcing his retirement from playback singing on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. The singer explained on social media that he is simply moving away from singing for movies and not from music in general. His legendary voice will no longer appear in Bollywood films, but fans may still look forward to live performances, concerts, tours and independent music releases.

Arijit Singh's retirement announcement triggered a flurry of responses, with some singers expressing shock. Badshah, Amaal Malik and B Praak, who described themselves as his lifelong fans, were in disbelief, while others congratulated him for his upcoming endeavours.
