Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha on Work Shift Demand: The debate regarding fixed hours of work in Bollywood has again come to the fore. This issue first hit the headlines after Deepika Padukone allegedly asked for an eight-hour shift. But now, filmmaker Anubhav Sinha, who recently released their film Assi and is getting praised, has given his opinion on this matter in a very practical manner. According to Anubhav Sinha, actors have every right to ask for their own hours of work, and the producer has the right to accept or reject it.
‘If You’re Not Okay, Don’t Work Together’: Assi Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha On Work Shift Rule

In a recent conversation with Subhankar Mishra, Anubhav Sinha stated, “If an actor wants to work for a limited time, there is nothing wrong in that.” He further added, “If you don’t like that, then don’t work with that artist; it’s a simple thing.” He emphasised that it is a professional matter and should not be taken as a matter of public controversy.
Sinha further added, “Why create public controversy? It is a private matter between the artist and the team. Resolve it privately.”
His Experience with Rishi Kapoor During Mulk
Talking about his experience, Sinha remembered his days working with the late actor Rishi Kapoor for the film Mulk (2018), where the actor had requested a few night shoots after going through the script.
Sinha said, "We talked about it, and we were okay about a certain number of night shoots. Even if there were changes, everything was sorted out in a nice way. For me, it was never a problem respecting the comfort of the actor, because the actor was giving so much for the film.”
Deepika’s Reported Eight-Hour Shift Demand
The debate on the fixed-hour work was also sparked by reports claiming that Deepika Padukone had left the film Spirit, which is directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. It was claimed that the reason for her leaving the film was the differences they had and the fact that she wanted to work for only eight hours a day. However, the film currently has Triptii Dimri starring alongside Prabhas.
Sinha said that he has never worked with the actress and only knows from other people that she is a professional and a pleasure to work with.

A Practical Issue, Not a Controversy
Assi director also pointed out that acting can be physically exhausting. This is because the actors are on a big screen, and any signs of tiredness can be evident. He believes that working hours should not be taken personally. Disagreements between professionals should remain personal to uphold the spirit of filmmaking.
