Bad Girl Release Date (Hindi): On September 5, 2025, Kollywood's controversial movie Bad Girl, starring Anjali Sivaraman, opened in theaters. The Tamil drama marks the directorial debut of Varsha Bharath stars Anjali Sivaram in the lead role. Producers Anurag Kashyap and Vetrimaaran were accused of potraying Brahmins in a negative light by director Mohan G. In fact, the movie's teaser was also removed from YouTube as instructed by the Madras High Court. The filmmaker has now addressed the controversy surrounding the Tamil drama ahead of its Hindi film's premiere.

Bad Girl director considered the reaction to the Tamil movie's theatrical debut during the same discussion. The response was 'overwhelmingly wonderful' and there was a learning curve, the director disclosed in an interview with Hindustan Times. 

Varsha Bharath remembered being 'confused' by events surrounding Bad Girl, said, "While everyone back home was telling me I had made a trashy film…or a porno, I had the international audience at the festival and filmmakers appreciating it. It was a very disorienting experience for me. I wondered if I could’ve done something differently, but in hindsight, my objective was just to cut a cool teaser, so there’s no regret there."

"The intensity with which women and young people have been reaching out to tell me they found the film relatable, that they feel seen, is beautiful. On the other hand, I was harbouring a hope that the film would be a box office success magically. Watching a movie with the audience teaches you a lot…it’s been a lot of lessons, but I’m happy," she added.

Bad Girl, which has been dubbed into Hindi, will be released on September 26, 2025. Distribution throughout the Hindi-speaking region will be managed by Flip Films. This is the first significant test up north for a movie that has been a talking point in the south.

The plot of Bad Girl centers on Ramya, a teenage girl juggling strict social norms, restrictive family expectations, and her own internal issues as she looks for the ideal mate. According to Varsha, she believed that Tamil cinema lacked female coming-of-age tales, therefore she decided to make the movie.
