SEVENTEEN member Hoshi has found himself at the centre of controversy after he liked a viral Instagram reel. A viral Instagram post showcased SEVENTEEN's electrifying performance of their song "Hit" at the 2019 MAMA, despite the group not winning the Best Dance Performance Award. The caption highlighted the unforgettable moment, emphasising their impressive show.

Screenshots of his activity quickly spread across social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok, as well as online communities. Although the post didn't directly mention any specific artist, fans began speculating about the context, particularly given that BTS won the Best Dance Performance award that year. This sparked intense discussions and assumptions among fans, with many interpreting Hoshi's like as a subtle acknowledgment or even a hint at a perceived rivalry or past grievance between SEVENTEEN and BTS.

An ARMY wrote on X, "Hoshi from seventeen liked a reel shading BTS what a fcking snake, and you want us to believe idols aren’t bitter about their success lmao."

Second ARMY commented, "Hoshi was very respectful when he came to Suchwita. I dont know why his feelings would change in course of 2 years. We have BTS back, why are we still wasting time on fanwars?"

A section of fans also came out in support of the SEVENTEEN member Hoshi:

A Carat wrote on X, "I swear. People these days are so bored that they would create issues out of nothing. Just give it a rest everyone, will you? I'm no Carat, but ik there are plenty of times where 17 showed their admiration and respect towards BTS and have praised them and put them in high regard."

Second Carat commented, "he didn't liked the reel!! He was tagged in it! please stop spreading false rumors!"

Third Carat wrote, "That reel is shading bts how?? Ig there were hate in the comment section not on the reel itself. Just asking genuinely. I'm confused."

It is pertinent to note that Hoshi has previously spoken highly of BTS, crediting them for paving the way in global Kpop and praising their captivating stage presence. In interviews and appearances, he's openly acknowledged BTS as an inspiration, especially during SEVENTEEN's early years. This history makes it unlikely that his like was intended as shade.
