The blockbuster success of Dhurandhar 2, titled as Dhurandhar: The Revenge, has brought the spotlight on its cast, particularly on newcomer Sara Arjun. Her performance as Yalina Jamali opposite Ranveer Singh has impressed viewers. Now, casting director Mukesh Chhabra has revealed how she bagged the role, sharing interesting information on the rigorous auditioning process and an important scene that helped her win over the director.

In an interview with HT City, Mukesh Chhabra recently revealed that Aditya Dhar had made it clear from the very beginning that he wanted to cast a new face for the role of Yalina. Even though he was offered suggestions for some big names for the role, he wanted a new personality for the film. In fact, he revealed that the idea was to feature a character who didn’t have a strong background presence.
Over 1000 Girls Auditioned For Dhurandhar
The process of casting was extensive, and over a thousand girls auditioned for the role. Chhabra revealed that he was told to find a new face for the role and bring authenticity to the character. The elaborate process of finding the right girl for the role made the final decision even more important, as only one girl could fit the bill.

The Scene That Made the Difference
In reference to the deciding factor, Mukesh said, “If you’ve seen part 2, the scene where she says, ‘Are you a Hindustani agent?’, that was my audition script.” Mukesh further said, “When Sara did this scene, it immediately caught my attention. When she did this scene, I instantly sent it to Aditya. He asked, ‘Who is she?’”
Although there were some initial doubts related to her age, the team eventually felt she perfectly fit the requirements. Chhabra said, “Her audition is very powerful, and we’re planning to release it soon.”

Film’s Success and Star Cast
The first and second parts of the film featured a strong cast, including Ranveer Singh, Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Rakesh Bedi and many others, along with a cameo by Yami Gautam.
The first part, Dhurandhar, was released in December 2025 and reportedly earned over Rs 1350 crore at the global box office. Meanwhile, Dhurandhar 2, released on March 19, 2026, continues to perform well at the box office and reportedly crossed over Rs 1392 crore worldwide.
