Despite its domestic success, James Gunn's Superman film has struggled to replicate its success internationally, with a relatively modest $95 million in box office earnings from outside the US, according to Box Office Mojo. This disparity is particularly evident in Japan, where the film has had a lackluster reception, barely making an impact.

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle's ticket sales in Japan were phenomenal, with websites crashing due to high demand and shows selling out within hours. In stark contrast, Superman's Japanese opening was underwhelming, grossing a disappointing $2.5 million. The disparity was evident, with one theater selling out just a single IMAX show of Superman, while Infinity Castle packed almost every screen.
