Dhurandhar Actress Sara Arjun To Play Female Lead In Imtiaz Ali's Heer Ranjha?

On Valentine’s Day 2026, filmmaker Imtiaz Ali and his brother Sajid Ali officially announced their next project, Heer Ranjha. The film will be a cinematic adaptation of the legendary Punjabi love story and marks their return to the epic romance genre. Backed by producer Ektaa Kapoor, the project reunites the trio after Laila Majnu, which starred Avinash Tiwary and Triptii Dimri.

Heer Ranjha is said to be the second chapter in the Laila Majnu franchise, continuing its legacy of timeless love stories. Ever since the announcement, there has been strong curiosity around the film’s casting. According to a recent report by Mid-Day, actress Sara Arjun is being considered for the female lead.

Sara Arjun gained widespread attention in 2025 with her role in Aditya Dhar’s film Dhurandhar. The report suggests that the makers are keen to cast a relatively fresh face, and Sara is currently one of the strongest contenders. A source quoted by the publication claimed that after her impressive performance in Dhurandhar, she has emerged as one of the most promising young actors in the industry. Sara Arjun will next be seen in Dhurandhar 2, where she stars alongside Ranveer Singh. The sequel is scheduled to release in cinemas on March 19.

Meanwhile, actor Rohit Saraf is reportedly being considered for the male lead. Although there has been no official confirmation from the makers, fans are already excited at the possibility of seeing Rohit and Sara paired together on screen. As of now, the casting process is still underway.

Speaking earlier about Heer Ranjha, Imtiaz Ali said that the film has its own rhythm and emotional world, while still connecting with today’s generation. Ektaa Kapoor also praised Imtiaz and Sajid’s storytelling, saying that they portray love with honesty and depth. She added that while Laila Majnu became a cult favourite over time, Heer Ranjha aims to touch audiences not just in India but across the global diaspora as well.
