Dhurandhar: Ranveer Singh’s film Dhurandhar is performing strongly at the box office, but the movie has now found itself in a fresh controversy. The film features Sanjay Dutt as the late Pakistani police officer SP Chaudhary Aslam, a key figure known for leading operations against criminal gangs in Karachi. Aslam’s wife, Noreen, has publicly expressed her disappointment with how her husband has been portrayed in the film, warning that she may take legal action if the depiction crosses the line.
Speaking on Dialogue Pakistan’s podcast, Noreen shared that her husband had been a huge admirer of Sanjay Dutt since watching Khalnayak in the 1990s. She believed Dutt would present her husband with respect and accuracy. However, she was upset after seeing a specific line in the Dhurandhar trailer, where a character refers to Aslam as ‘the offspring of the devil and a djinn.’ Objecting to this description, Noreen said, “We are Muslims, and such words are disrespectful not only to Aslam but to his mother, who was a simple and honest woman. If I see my husband being portrayed wrongly or if there is any propaganda against him in the film, I will take all legal steps. It is strange that Indian filmmakers find no other subjects but to malign Pakistan.”

Who Was Chaudhary Aslam?
Chaudhary Aslam, born in 1963, joined the Sindh Police in the 1980s. Over the years, he worked across several regions of the province and earned a strong reputation for his fearless approach to tackling crime. In the 2000s, he headed the Lyari Task Force, leading the government’s crackdown on some of Karachi’s most notorious gangs. He played a crucial role in eliminating key gangsters and became one of Pakistan’s most recognised police officers. Although he survived an attack by the Taliban in 2011, he was assassinated in 2014 by the TTP, the Pakistani faction of the Taliban.

About Dhurandhar
Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar is inspired by real-life incidents related to Operation Lyari, a long-running covert mission in Karachi’s gang-controlled Lyari area. The film presents a semi-fictional story of India’s covert involvement in the fight against terrorism in the region. Alongside Sanjay Dutt, the film stars Ranveer Singh as an Indian spy, with Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, and Sara Arjun playing key roles.
Before release, the film was already under scrutiny after the family of Major Mohit Sharma, an Ashoka Chakra awardee, sought a stay on the film, claiming it used elements from his life without permission. The Delhi High Court, however, dismissed the objections and allowed the film to release on December 1, 2025. Despite mixed reviews, Dhurandhar has seen strong word-of-mouth and has earned Rs 104 crore net in India during its opening weekend.
