Actor Rahul Bose, who also serves as the president of the Indian Rugby Football Union, has found himself at the centre of a major controversy. He has been accused of obtaining a fake Himachal Pradesh domicile certificate to strengthen his influence and secure key votes within the Rugby Federation. The matter has now reached the Himachal Pradesh High Court, where a hearing is scheduled for December 18.

Rahul Bose Rugby Federation Votes Controversy

The dispute began in 2023 when Rahul Bose reportedly assured the Jubbal royal family in Shimla that he would help set up and officially recognise a state-level rugby association in Himachal Pradesh. Over the next two years, members from various districts worked hard to build the association and grow the sport in the region. However, according to complainant Divya Kumari, a member of the royal family, the promised recognition never came. She claims that despite the community’s efforts, the existing association is now being ignored, and a completely new organisation is being created in its place. Divya alleges that Bose ‘did not honour his commitment’ and instead used the royal family’s goodwill to boost his standing within the Rugby Federation.

Rahul Bose-Divya Kumari Legal Issue

Meanwhile, one of the most serious accusations relates to Rahul Bose’s Himachal domicile certificate. Divya questioned how the actor, who was born in Kolkata and holds an Aadhaar card, passport, and domicile from Maharashtra could also have a valid certificate from Himachal Pradesh. She claims the certificate was obtained only to secure two crucial votes for Himachal during national rugby selections. According to her, this act is not just unethical but may also be illegal.

On the other hand, members of the state rugby community are reportedly upset and frustrated. Many of them spent years working on grassroots development and say their contributions are now being overshadowed. Some players and organisers have raised concerns about a possible cover-up and are demanding transparency from the rugby administration. With the matter now in the Himachal Pradesh High Court, Divya Kumari has formally registered her complaint and requested a full investigation.
