Bunty Aur Babli opened a new chapter in the careers of Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai particularly because of the iconic hit song Kajra Re, which still captivates fans today. It became an immediate hit thanks to the amazing dance number, catchy tunes, and the trio, of course. However, did you know that the song was on the verge of being removed from the movie?

Bunty Aur Babli director Shaad Ali talked about the drama that occurred behind the scenes prior to the filming of Kajra Re in a recent interview with SCREEN. The filmmaker disclosed that as soon as he heard the song, he knew it was going to be a smash. The song's potential was questioned by the movie's creators, though.

Shaad Ali also disclosed that Amitabh Bachchan advised him against filming this song."I knew when I heard an eight-second riff of it… that this is going to work wonders. But Yash Raj had given it the last number… ki yeh sabse kam popular hoga. Amit ji ne kaha tha ki yeh gaana shoot hi mat karo," he said.

The director revealed that before the movie's premiere, Yash Films took the song as one of its weaker points. In fact even Amitabh Bachchan refused to sing even a single verse. Big B thought Shankar Mahadevan would be perfect for it, but Shaad requested the megastar if he could sing a portion of it.

About Kajra Re

With Shankar-Ehsan-Loy's composition and Gulzar's lyrics expertly woven together in Alisha Chinai's voice, Kajra Re is a masterpiece. It was Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan's debut song together as a father-son duo. Aishwarya Rai, who had previously been on sabbatical, also made a reappearance.
