Pankaj Tripathi is one of the prominent figures of the Television industry, who is currently gearing up for Criminal Justice Season 4. In the show, the actor plays the role of Madhav Mishra, who is an ordinary lawyer, known for his unique and witty style. The show, which is an original JioHotstar web series, is based on a legal courtroom drama. The fourth season of Criminal Justice is currently streaming on the OTT platform. Ahead of the show’s release, Pankaj Tripathi revealed that he initially turned down the offer to be part of the first season. As he did not want to do a show which is an official adaptation of a British show, despite liking the script.

In an interview with The Indian Express, Pankaj Tripathi said, “Sridhar Raghavan, who wrote season 1, had come and narrated me the first few episodes. I said, “Ye toh kamaal hai!” Then he revealed it’s an official adaptation of a British show. Then I said, “Phir rehne do.” So he reasoned that it’s not a copy, but an adaptation within the Indian judicial system. So then I didn’t watch the original show because once I do, I feel that experience is already complete.”

In the same interview, the actor stated that the British version had two seasons, whereas the Indian adaptation now has four seasons. He said, “Just the day before, I was watching the season 4 trailer in a cab in London. Then I started playing a motivational video on YouTube right after. The driver thought it’s part of the trailer and said, “Nice quote.” He thought I was speaking that dialogue in the show. He was from South Africa. He asked me what I do for a living, I said I’m an actor. So then he said, “I’m also a photographer, at BBC.” I told him the show’s trailer I was watching is Criminal Justice, and it’s by BBC India. I told him how there are only two seasons in the UK, whereas we’re coming up with the fourth one in India!”

Notably, the British series had the same name, which was released in 2008. It starred Maxine Peake, Ben Whishaw, Bill Paterson and Vineeta Rishi in key roles.

Coming back to the Indian version of Criminal Justice, the fourth Season of the series also features Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Surveen Chawla, Asha Negi and Khushboo Atre in significant roles. It has been written by Harman Wadala, Sandeep Jain, Sameer Mishra and directed by Rohan Sippy. The show is now streaming on JioHotstar.
