Rana Daggubati has been given a new date by Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning in a money laundering case, which is linked to illegal online betting and gambling by certain platforms, as per reports. The notice came after he failed to appear on Wednesday. According to reports, Rana sought deferment of the summons and asked to appear before the central agency on August 11. Last week, ED issued summons to four actors, who were asked to appear in the office on different dates.
As per reports, apart from Daggubati, Prakash Raj was asked to appear on July 30, Vijay Deverakonda on August 6 and Lakshmi Manchu on August 13. ED issues summons around 28 people, including actors, social media influencers and management personnel of these apps have been booked by ED for the investigation. The actors were summoned for promoting the online betting apps, which were allegedly involved in generating ‘illicit’ funds. After their appearance, ED will record their statements under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Notably, the case is based on five FIRs registered in Panjagutta, Miyapur, Cyberabad, Suryapet, and Visakhapatnam.
The central agency is currently investigating where the endorsements as part of the strategy to boost more users to unauthorised betting platforms. More summons are likely to happen in the coming days.
