90s star Govinda, who captivated audiences with his on-screen presence whether through his comic timing or unmatched dance moves, was last seen in the 2019 movie Rangeela Raja. Since then, his absence from the big screen has been missed by fans. Although his cinematic aura remains untouched, his wife Sunita Ahuja, has a different take on his absence and revealed the actual problem, which she stated lies in Govinda’s circle. She also criticized her husband’s outdated approach to filmmaking and urged him to explore digital platforms.
Sunita Ahuja is known for her straightforward opinions and candid takes on the industry, including those about her husband, Govinda. In a recent conversation with The Powerful Humans, she addressed the much-discussed question: why has Govinda not been seen on the silver screen in the last 17 years? She stated, "The problem is that his circle is the wrong one. It’s a wrong circle. Today, my fights with him are because I can’t lie, and I do not appreciate flattery."
Emphasizing more on Govinda's circle, she stated, "Today he has four people – a writer, a musician, a secretary and a lawyer friend. They are of no use. They only say ‘wah, wah!’ If he makes music, they say ‘wah, wah… kalam kar diya.’ They should tell him the truth. When I tell him the truth, he gets upset.”
Sunita revealed how she tried to convince Govinda to change his circle and consider other perspectives on filmmaking, but he refused to adapt to the new changes.

She added, “I tell him the ’90s era is over. It is 2025. Look at what’s working on Netflix and digital platforms. But he stays with his ‘wah, wah’ production. I told him, change your circle. For as long as you have these 4–5 people, they won’t let you go forward."
Govinda created his own era in the 80s and 90s with remarkable performances in movies such as Coolie No. 1, Hero No. 1, Dulhe Raja, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, and others. He also starred in Partner, Sandwich, Do Knot Disturb and more in the 2000s. His last appearance was in Rangeela Raja in 2019, which didn’t perform well at the box office. Fans are eagerly waiting to see him back on screen with some exciting projects.
