Homebound Box Office Collection Day 3: Neeraj Ghaywan’s latest movie Homebound, stars Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor. The movie has been chosen as India’s official entry to the Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category. Despite this honour and the critical buzz surrounding it, the film’s box office performance has been far from impressive in its opening weekend. Released on 26 September, the movie has been performing significantly modestly at the box office despite clashes.
According to Sacnilk, Homebound managed to earn Rs 1.32 crore in its first weekend. The movie opened with Rs 30 Lakhs on Friday followed by Rs 50 Lakhs on Saturdxay. On its third day (Sunday), the movie collected Rs. 52 lakh. While the film has finally crossed the Rs. 1 crore mark, its progress is considered slow, especially for a project with such strong critical backing and a powerful storyline.
About Homebound Movie
Homebound is set in a small town in North India and revolves around two childhood friends, Mohammed Shoaib Ali (Ishaan Khatter) and Chandan Kumar (Vishal Jethwa). Both characters dream of joining the police force as a way to break free from poverty and the harsh realities of caste and religious discrimination. The narrative unfolds against the backdrop of the first COVID-19 lockdown in 2020. With transport shut down and no financial stability, the two friends are forced to walk back home, facing several dangers along the way. Their journey tests not only their endurance but also the strength of their friendship. Janhvi Kapoor plays Sudha, Chandan’s love interest, who adds an emotional layer to the story.
Meanhwile, produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, the film tackles themes of inequality, systemic failures, and the devastating impact of the pandemic. It also shines a light on how social divisions can shape and limit the lives of ordinary people. On the other hand, as per the official announcements, the film will premiere on Netflix after completing its theatrical run, although the release date has not been confirmed yet.
