Aamir Khan is preparing to bring his most ambitious project yet to life — an adaptation of the epic Mahabharat. Speaking on a recent podcast, the Bollywood superstar described the movie as a long-cherished dream, stating, “It’s layered, it has emotion, it has scale everything you find in the world, you will find in Mahabharat.” For Aamir, Mahabharat isn’t just another movie, it’s a life’s mission. With Mahabharat, the actor may well be preparing for the magnum opus of his career.

Aamir Khan revealed in Raj Shamani’s podcast that the magnitude of the project may even lead him to consider it his final cinematic offering. “Maybe after doing this, I will feel that I have nothing left to do. I cannot do anything after this, as the material of this film is going to be like that,” he said. Expressing his dedication, he added, “I hope that I die with my shoes on, but since you’re asking, this is the one thing I can think of. Perhaps after this, I will feel that I don’t need to do anything else.”

Previously, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Aamir shared the colossal vision behind the project, revealing that even developing the script would take years. He also confirmed that casting decisions would be based solely on who fits the characters best and not whether he himself plays a role. “We’ll see who we should cast based on who’s appropriate for which part,” he said. The Lagaan actor further hinted that Mahabharat would not be confined to a single movie. “To complete it within a set time, we will need more than one director,” he said, pointing towards a large-scale, multi-part production that could potentially redefine Indian cinema.

About Aamir Khan’s Movies

While Mahabharat is still in development, Aamir’s next release will be Sitaare Zameen Par, directed by RS Prasanna. Co-starring Genelia Deshmukh, the movie is said to be an uplifting story centred on creativity and perseverance, echoing the emotional tone of his earlier hit Taare Zameen Par.

On the other hand, Aamir Khan has consistently raised the bar in Indian cinema with landmark films. From Lagaan (2001), which earned an Oscar nomination, to the thought-provoking Rang De Basanti (2006), and Taare Zameen Par (2007), his work has pushed both creative and social boundaries.

In 2009, 3 Idiots became a cultural phenomenon, followed by PK (2014), which tackled religious dogma with satire. His biggest blockbuster to date remains Dangal (2016), a sports biopic that not only broke box office records but also received global acclaim for its storytelling and performances.
