Salakaar: Mouni Roy, a popular star in Indian television, became a household name for her performance in the supernatural series Naagin (2015–2016) and a sequel, Naagin 2 (2016–2017), after her debut in the popular soap Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi back in 2006. She also amazed people with her roles in Devon Ke Dev Mahadev as Sati and in Junoon Aisi Nafrat Toh Kaisa Ishq. The Naagin actress now is set to star in her next project titled Salakaar, a spy thriller which is set to premiere on JioHotstar on 15 August 2025, conjoined to Independence Day celebrations.

While the makers have not officially confirmed it, a report in Filmfare claims that the movie is inspired by the life of one of India’s most esteemed intelligence officers, Ajit Doval. The report suggests that Salakaar will delve into the world of national security and espionage, weaving fiction with real-life inspiration.

Salakaar director Faruk Kabir opened up about the film’s deeper message, beyond just thrills and covert operations, and reportedly said, “Salakaar is not just a spy thriller; it’s a deeply emotional narrative about fractured legacies and the cost of silence. We’re looking at espionage not only as a mission but as a burden, as a debt that passes from one generation to another.” Meanwhile, Mouni had earlier hinted at the project by sharing a photo with Faruk Kabir on social media, sparking speculation about their collaboration. Now, it's confirmed that she plays a key role in the movie, though other cast details remain undisclosed.
