Vivah: Sooraj Barjatya seems to be on a roll. After roping in Ayushmann Khurrana and Sharvari for his upcoming family drama, the veteran filmmaker is reportedly planning another big project. According to recent reports, Barjatya is planning to revive a few of his cult classic films and turn them into modern-age dramas. Sooraj Barjatya is reportedly working on a modern take of his cult classic Vivah, which originally starred Shahid Kapoor. Reports further suggest Vedang Raina is to be the frontrunner for the lead role.
According to a report in News 18, after casting Ayushmann as Prem in his next project, Barjatya “decided to create a new-age version of his cult film Vivah, which originally starred Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao, and Vedang is the top contender for the lead role." The report also added, “Sooraj has, as per the update, already approached Vedang, but there is no confirmation yet on whether he has taken up the role." The original Vivah is a romantic drama directed by Sooraj Barjatya. It tells the story of Prem (Shahid Kapoor) and Poonam (Amrita Rao), whose arranged engagement blossoms into deep love through shared family values and traditions. However, tragedy strikes when Poonam suffers severe burns just before their wedding, putting their love and commitment to the ultimate test.

Meanwhile, in an earlier conversation about starting the shoot for the Ayushmann Khurrana film, Barjatya told PTI, “I’ve had this nervousness before the shoot of every film. This has been there even when I made my first film, Maine Pyaar Kiya; it’s (nervousness) still the same. As a creator, it’s not about how much box office (numbers) it will do, it’s about whether you’re able to connect or not with that thought or scene." He further explained his filmmaking approach and said, “For me, whether it’s a film or a show, everyone should feel that the world I’m creating is honest. It shouldn’t look fake; everyone should feel that this is how my house is. That is my biggest challenge. I want to make what I know. It’s important to make every kind of film, but it’s important to make family films."
Vedang Raina’s Work Front
Vedang Raina was last seen in Jigra, alongside Alia Bhatt. Directed by Vasan Bala, the film was an emotional drama revolving around a brother-sister bond. Vedang has an exciting line-up ahead, including a collaboration with Sharvari in Imtiaz Ali’s next project. According to Mid-Day report, “Set in the 1940s, the movie looks at Partition and its after-effects from the lens of two lovers. While Sharvari plays the young female lead opposite Vedang, Imtiaz is in talks with two more leading ladies for other prominent roles, as the film revolves around different generations of families."
