Madharaasi vs Ghaati Box Office Day 2: The Tamil box office has turned into a battleground this weekend with two major releases, Sivakarthikeyan’s Madharaasi and Anushka Shetty’s action-packed Ghaati. Both films released on September 5, 2025, and are fighting hard to capture audience attention. With mixed reviews but strong word-of-mouth, the competition between the two is being closely watched by trade experts and fans alike.

Madharaasi, an action thriller written and directed by AR Murugadoss, has had a solid start. Madharaasi, the Sivakarthikeyan-starrer action thriller which is currently running in theatres, has been seeing making decent numbers. After an opening of Rs 13 crore, the film has been maintaining its second day earnings as well. The film collected Rs 11.75 crore on the second day. According to Sacnilk, Madharaasi has made total earnings of Rs 25.40 crore. This performance marks a positive comeback for AR Murugadoss, who returns to Tamil cinema after five years since Darbar (2020). Though some critics gave middling reviews, general audiences have responded well, helping the film gain stability.

On the other side, Ghaati, starring a younger cast and marketed heavily as a raw action entertainer, has shown promise with younger audiences. While official figures for Day 2 are slightly behind Madharaasi, early reports suggest that the film has been holding well in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities where action dramas traditionally perform better. Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, the film took an estimated Rs 2 crore on its opening day but on the second day of its theatrical run, the collection fell to about Rs 1.49 crore. This gives Ghaati about Rs 3.49 crore over the first two days as per trade analyst Sacnilk. Trade experts believe Ghaati’s strength lies in its regional connect and mass appeal, which could give it steady collections even if it doesn’t open as big as Sivakarthikeyan’s film.

Comparing the two, Madharaasi clearly has the advantage in terms of star power and director reputation. Meanwhile, Ghaati is relying on positive word-of-mouth among action lovers. Its opening day figures were lower compared to Madharaasi, but it has maintained a steady hold on Day 2. If the film continues to perform strongly in semi-urban belts, it may bridge the gap in the coming days. Overall, the clash between Madharaasi and Ghaati has added excitement to the Tamil box office. With the weekend yet to conclude, both films have an opportunity to grow further.
