Malayalam Rapper Vedan Rape Case: Malayalam rapper Hiran Das Murali, better known by his stage name Vedan, was briefly arrested on Wednesday in connection with a rape case. However, the arrest turned out to be more of a formality since Vedan had already been granted anticipatory bail by the Kerala High Court. After completing the required legal procedures, he was released the same evening. The case against Vedan involves allegations of rape on the false promise of marriage. The complaint was filed by a doctor who claimed that she met the rapper on Instagram in 2021. Over time, their friendship developed into a relationship.

According to her statement, Vedan promised to marry her and, based on this assurance, they engaged in physical relations on multiple occasions in different cities including Kozhikode and Kochi, between 2021 and 2023. The complainant further alleged that the two briefly lived together during their relationship. She also claimed that she financially supported Vedan by funding his debut music album and covering his travel expenses. In her bail opposition, she argued that Vedan had deceived other women in a similar way, and therefore did not deserve relief from the court.

However, the Kerala High Court, while granting anticipatory bail on 27 August, stated that each case must be considered independently. The court gave him conditional bail and directed him to appear before the investigating officers for questioning on two consecutive days. He complied with this order, answering questions for five hours on Tuesday and then returning again on Wednesday, when his formal arrest was recorded. After his arrest was officially noted, the police took Vedan for a routine medical check-up. He was then brought back to the police station, where, after following due process, he was released later in the day.

Meanwhile, Vedan’s legal team maintained that the accusations were baseless. His counsel argued that the relationship was consensual, pointing out that the complainant had initially approached him as a fan. They also claimed that the case stemmed from personal differences rather than criminal wrongdoing. The police, however, had earlier issued a lookout notice for the rapper, fearing he might leave the country after the complaint came to light. For a brief period, he had been untraceable, which added to suspicions.

On the other hand, this is not the only case against Vedan. Recently, a local court granted him anticipatory bail in another case filed by a different woman with similar allegations. The court clarified that while there may be multiple complaints, only the specific case under hearing was being considered for bail.
