Actress Mandira Bedi got married to the love of her life, Raj Kaushal, on February 14, 1999, and gave birth to their son Vir on June 19, 2011. The couple also adopted a four-year-old girl child and named her Tara Bedi Kaushal. Talking about the struggles faced by Mandira and Raj, the actress opened up about her bond with her children. She also revealed how she sees some of herself in her adopted daughter Tara, rather than in Vir.

Mandira Bedi recently got candid during an interview with Zoom and shared what it feels like to experience a different kind of motherhood. “Motherhood is the best thing that has happened to me. I adopted my daughter at the age of 4 and had already had a biological son. I am a very lucky and privileged person to be an adoptive and a biological mother. Not many people have this journey,” she said.

The popular TV presenter also mentioned how she sees a glimpse of herself in her daughter Tara and said, “To see something in the child that you have given birth to, but to see something of you in a child that you haven’t given birth to, I think that is unbelievable. My daughter is more like me than what my son is. My son has a musical mind, he is gifted with music but I can’t sing. Whereas my daughter is athletic, sporty and has long curly hair. When I put her hair up in a clip, she looks like my character of Shanti.”

Mandira Bedi’s struggle for adoption:

The DDLJ actress recently revealed during an interview with Humans Of Bombay the struggles she and Raj faced in adopting their daughter Tara. She recalled how tough the process was and said, “I wanted to have a second child and adopt. When my son Veer was about six, I put in the papers for adoption. It’s a long process, and I don’t know why it’s not easier. I mean, I understand the reasons, but when it’s clear that this is a good family, it should be simpler. It took a while, Veer turned nine, the pandemic hit, and I told Raj, ‘It still hasn’t happened. Why?’ We had gotten caught up and didn’t follow up much. So, I thought, it’s now or never, and we pushed forward.”

Mandira Bedi on Tara’s luck:

Elaborating on how Tara’s arrival into their family was all about luck, Mandira said, “This is maktoob… for a girl who had never sat in a car before, she took a trip on a private jet. It was naseeb, kismat. We wouldn’t have used a private jet, but it was too dangerous to fly commercially because COVID was at its peak. It was the most practical solution at the time.”

Raj Kaushal passed away in 2021 due to a heart attack. After the sad demise of her husband, actress Mandira Bedi stood strong and has been raising both her kids independently. The actress was recently seen in Netflix’s web series The Railway Men.
