Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19 while swimming in the sea in Singapore with a few friends and coworkers. The North East Festival, an annual international event that highlights the region's culture, was the reason he traveled to Singapore. For the unversed, drowning was listed as the cause of death on the death certificate that Singaporean officials provided.

However, many in his own state have conjectured and accused him of incompetence, foul play, or conspiracy in connection with his death. Zubeen Garg's manager Siddharth Sarma and Shyamkanu Mahanta, the organizer of the North East India Festival, were both recently arrested.

Zubeen Garg's body arrived in Guwahati on Sunday. On September 23, his death rites were conducted on the city's outskirts with state honours.
