Mrs Deshpande Release Date Out: Madhuri Dixit is set to surprise audiences with her boldest role yet in Mrs Deshpande, her upcoming thriller series for JioHotstar. Directed by Nagesh Kukunoor and produced by Applause Entertainment in association with Kukunoor Movies, the series introduces the actress in a completely de-glam avatar as a serial killer. This is her first project in such a dark genre after earlier OTT titles like The Fame Game and Maja Ma. Adapted from the French thriller La Mante, the show will premiere on 19 December 2025. The streamer announced the release date with a short teaser showing Madhuri as a calm yet unsettling homemaker, hinting at the psychological depths of her character.
JioHotstar shared the teaser on X with the caption, “From killer smile to killer’s smile. Hotstar Specials: Mrs. Deshpande Streaming from 19 December only on JioHotstar. #MrsDeshpandeOnJioHotstar.” The 30-second video quickly gained attention for portraying Madhuri in a strikingly raw and unsettling way. In the clip, she is seen chopping vegetables while humming Boli Si Surat, only to flash a chilling smile after hearing a radio report about a serial killer still on the loose, setting the tone for a tense and gripping story. The radio announcement heard in the teaser mentions eight unsolved murders, and the police struggling to find the culprit. The moment Madhuri hears this, she pauses, looks straight at the camera and gives a cold smile before continuing her task. This eerie contrast between her peaceful routine and the disturbing news hints at a layered, psychological tale. The series also features Siddharth Chandekar and Priyanshu Chatterjee in key roles, adding to the strong ensemble behind the project.

Speaking about the role, Madhuri Dixit shared her excitement about stepping into unexplored territory, saying, “Mrs Deshpande is unlike anything I've stepped into before. It’s raw, unfiltered, and strips away the glamour audiences usually associate with me. She is the most complex character I've ever played - you constantly feel like you know her till you don't. Playing a character with so many shades of grey has been both exciting and nerve-wracking!" Her transformation into this mysterious character has created major buzz, especially since audiences have rarely seen her in such a dark, psychological space.
Meanwhile, director Nagesh Kukunoor expressed that the project was built with Madhuri in mind from the very beginning, stating, “Mrs. Deshpande has been a truly fascinating and enjoyable journey for me. As I worked on the script, I saw only Madhuri in the title role, and to have her play this complex character was an absolute joy. The deglamorized look is just the beginning, as her character constantly keeps the audience second-guessing the secrets that she hides behind the million-watt smile.” He added that this role marks a sharp departure from anything the audience has seen her do.
