Recently, Neelam Kothari revealed she had no idea that she was playing a small role in one of Bollywood’s most beautiful love stories. Years later, Shah Rukh Khan told her that her movies had unknowingly become part of his early romance with Gauri Khan.
Neelam Kothari, during her appearance on Indian Idol’s special Season of Love Episode, recalled that Shah Rukh told her, “A few months back Shah Rukh was telling me, ‘You know Neelam, one of the reasons Gauri and I got married is because of you.”
Shah Rukh Khan had a simple explanation: he and Gauri were both fans of Neelam, and they spent time watching her films together.

Neelam Kothari revealed her conversation with SRK. She said, “He was telling me that when I was doing movies, he was a big fan, and Gauri was also a big fan. So both of them used to watch my films together.”
She added, “So that's how the romance started. They went to watch Neelam's film together, and I did not know that.”
Neelam later summed up the revelation with a laugh: “So one of the reasons Shah Rukh and Gauri are together is because of me.”
However, it is important to note that this incident does not suggest that Neelam actually introduced the couple or deliberately played matchmaker. Her role was just accidental.
Shah Rukh Khan And Gauri’s Relationship Dates Back To Their Teenage Years
Bollywood King Shah Rukh got married to Gauri on October 25, 1991. Shah Rukh Khan, on many occasions, has discussed his relationship with Gauri Khan. He has revealed that he met Gauri when he was 18.
He spoke about being extremely shy around girls at the time. In an old interview, he recalled seeing Gauri dancing with a boy and asking a friend to find out whether she would dance with him.

Neelam Kothari knows Shah Rukh Khan from his struggling days as an actor. Over the years, Neelam has also spoken warmly about Shah Rukh professionally. At the 2022 India Today Conclave, when asked to recast popular 1990s films, she refused to replace Shah Rukh in Dil To Pagal Hai. “SRK is the OG. How can you recast him?” she said.
Although the two actors have not worked together in any project, Neelam made a memorable cameo in Karan Johar's 1998 film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji.
On the other hand, Neelam Kothari’s association with Gauri Khan is much deeper. The two have been friends for around two decades, with Neelam describing Gauri as a central figure in the close-knit circle that also includes Maheep Kapoor, Bhavana Pandey and Seema Sajdeh.
Speaking at the India Today Conclave in 2022, Neelam explained how Gauri became the link that kept the group together. Neelam said, “The four of us wouldn't have been so friendly had it not been for Gauri Khan.”
“It is because of her, we used to meet at her place. Because of her, I was in touch with everyone. She is a major part of our lives over the 20-25 years that we have known each other,” she said.
