Oscars 2026 Nominations Live Updates: Homebound Snubbed At 98th Academy Awards

Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein has secured 9 nominations for the upcoming 2026 Oscars. The film was highlighted alongside other heavily nominated films like Sinners (16 nominations) and One Battle After Another (13 nominations). 

Here are the nominees for makeup and hairstyling:

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has already revealed the shortlists for 12 categories at the 98th Academy Awards. These include Animated Short Film, Casting, Cinematography, Documentary Feature and Short Film, International Feature Film, Live Action Short Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Original Score, Original Song, Sound and Visual Effects. The shortlists were announced on December 16, 2025.

The Academy appears just as excited about this year’s nominations announcement. In one of its many countdown posts on the official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Academy wrote, "Waking up and realizing you only have three more hours until Oscar nominations."

Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman will unveil the 2026 Oscar nominations on January 22 at 7:00 pm IST. The actors are set to announce nominees across 24 categories, including the newly introduced casting award, during a live presentation from the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound is at the forefront, having already been shortlisted for Best International Feature, while other Indian films such as Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1 and Mahavatar Narsimha are also creating strong buzz across multiple categories.

Homebound is competing against the likes of Jafar Panahi’s It Was Just An Accident (France), Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value (Norway), Kleber Mendonça Filho’s Belén (Argentina), Hasan Hadi’s The President’s Cake (Iraq), Mascha Schilinski’s Sound of Falling (Germany), Lee Sang-il’s Kokuho (Japan), Cherien Dabis’s All That’s Left of You (Jordan), Annemarie Jacir’s Palestine 36 (Palestine), Park Chan-wook’s No Other Choice (South Korea), Oliver Laxe’s Sirat (Spain), Petra Volpe’s Late Shift (Switzerland), Tsou Shih-Ching’s Left-Handed Girl (Taiwan) and Kaouther Ben Hania’s The Voice of Hind Rajab (Tunisia).

Neeraj Ghaywan's Homebound will be contending in the Best International Feature Film category at the upcoming 96th Academy Awards. The film, backed by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, previously made it to the shortlist of voting in the category.

Set for Thursday, January 22, 2026, the nominations drop at 8:30 a.m. EST, or 5:30 a.m. PST, for Indian audiences, which translates to 7:00 p.m. IST.
