Ektaa Kapoor, often referred to as the Queen of the TV industry, started her first series of K-shows by launching serials like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Kahani Ghar Ghar Kii, Kayaamat and others. Her saas-bahu serials became culture-defining over the next decade and still hold the power to influence the face of the Indian television industry. While actors like Smriti Irani, Ronit Roy and others gained huge popularity through her shows, some called them regressive. Recently, Bollywood producer Pahlaj Nihalani shed light on this topic and expressed how he feels about Ektaa Kapoor’s serials.

Pahlaj Nihalani gave an honest opinion during an interview with Learn From The Legend’s (YouTube channel) and said, “Ekta Kapoor, the great… I mean men are not allowed to get married twice but she gets women married three times… Our culture has been ruined.” He also added, “Earlier, erotic movies were made rarely; now there’s sex everywhere.” The producer explained how Ektaa Kapoor’s shows promote the concept of polygamy, where a person can marry or be in a relationship with multiple partners at the same time.

Further, he revealed that Bollywood is not making movies for the masses anymore. According to him, Shah Rukh Khan, who is known for doing romantic films like DDLJ, is now holding a gun, which means it's working in today’s cinema. He also shared, “Films like RRR, they are fully based on Ramayana and Mahabharat, even in Kalki, the end was all about Mahabharat. People are taken in by Indian culture but we are force-feeding people that one woman can get married to three men.”

During the same conversation, Pahlaj Nihalani also mentioned that earlier, actors never used to interfere in the casting process. It was always the director's and producer's choice. According to him, Akshay Kumar started this trend during the filming of Talaash in 2002. Pahlaj recalled, ”He told me that ‘we can start the movie tomorrow, and you can give me any amount that you want, but the heroine of this film will be Kareena Kapoor.’”
