Priya Marathe Death: Television and film actress Priya Marathe, best known for her role in Pavitra Rishta, passed away in Mumbai on August 31, 2025, after a long and difficult fight with cancer. She was 38 years old. Marathe, who had been battling the illness for over a year, was a familiar face on both Hindi and Marathi television. Her versatility as an actress allowed her to move seamlessly between drama, comedy, and stand-up performances. With her passing, the television industry has lost a talented performer who was admired by colleagues and audiences alike for her dedication and charm on screen.

Priya Marathe was born on April 23, 1987, in Mumbai. She completed both her schooling and higher education in the city before deciding to pursue a career in acting. Her debut came with the Marathi serial Ya Sukhanoya, followed by a role in Char Divas Sasuche. These early projects paved the way for her entry into Hindi television, where she quickly made a name for herself. Over the years, Marathe became widely recognised for her diverse roles. She played Vidya Bali in Balaji Telefilms’ popular drama Kasamh Se. She was later seen in the first season of Comedy Circus, which showcased her comic timing and ability to entertain beyond traditional acting. In addition, she portrayed Jyoti Malhotra in Sony TV’s daily soap Bade Acche Lagte Hain, which first aired in April 2012.

One of her most memorable performances was as Varsha Satish in Zee TV’s Pavitra Rishta. The show, which ran successfully for several years, earned Marathe immense popularity and cemented her position as a well-loved household name. Beyond this, she was also part of several other television projects, including Tu Tithe Me, Bhaage Re Mann, Jayastute and Bharat Ka Veer Putra Maharana Pratap.

Meanwhile, Marathe’s career also extended into films. She appeared in the 2008 Hindi movie Humne Jeena Seekh Liya. Later, she was seen in the Marathi film Ti Ani Itar, directed by Govind Nihalani. The film also starred Subodh Bhave, Sonali Kulkarni, Amruta Subhash, Bhushan Pradhan, Ganesh Yadav, and Aavishkar Darvhekar, and was well received for its strong performances. In her personal life, Priya Marathe married actor Shantanu Moghe in 2012. The couple were regarded as one of the admired pairs in the Marathi entertainment industry.
