Boong Review: Rajkumar Hirani, who helmed popular films like 3 Idiots and PK, has lavished praise on Lakshmi Priya Devi's Manipuri film Boong. The film's emotional depth, cultural diversity, and unvarnished storytelling have won it praise. Taking to social media, Hirani shared his admiration, "Watched BOONG by Lakshmi Priya Devi — a beautiful Manipuri film that made me laugh, cry, and discover North East in ways I never had. Pure cinema."

Boong has been praised by viewers for its simplicity and realism as it skillfully blends humour, feelings, and Northeastern cultural quirks. When the movie's restricted screenings in a few cities were first available, they soon sold out, prompting moviegoers to demand greater accessibility. As a result of this tremendous response, distributors have now announced more concerts in a number of theatres located around major cities.

 Boong, which was written and directed by Lakshmipriya Devi, was a landmark film for Manipuri cinema when it debuted at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival. Excel Entertainment, Chalkboard Entertainment, and Suitable Pictures are the producers of the movie. Boong debuted on September 19, 2025, in theatres.

What Is Boong All About?

The plot of the film Boong centres on a little child named Boong from the Manipur Valley who intends to give his mother a surprise present. Bringing his father home will be the most memorable gift, according to the film. He receives an unexpected gift, a fresh start, as a result of his hunt for his father.

Lakshmipriya Devi’s debut directorial claimed that the much-anticipated movie, which was inspired by her grandmother's folktales, pays homage to the tenacity of the Manipur people while capturing the warmth and charm of her early years.
