Rakhi Sawant has been served a non-bailable arrest warrant by a court in Uttar Pradesh, in a case that goes back to 2010. Government counsel Mridul Kant Srivastava said the court acted because she repeatedly failed to appear before it.

What Is Rakhi Sawant 2010 Case?

According to PTI, the case concerned Laxman Ahirwar, a resident of the Hansari Prem Nagar area in Jhansi. The lawyer said he allegedly died by suicide on November 10, 2010, after being humiliated by remarks Rakhi Sawant made on her TV show, Rakhi Ka Insaaf.

He had appeared on the show with his wife to talk about a marital dispute. During the episode, Sawant called him impotent while trying to settle the couple's disagreement.

Srivastava said Civil Judge (Junior Division) Anjali issued the warrant on Friday, after Rakhi repeatedly failed to appear in court. The next hearing is on December 1.

The case began with a complaint by his mother, Savitri, at the Prem Nagar police station.

Rakhi Sawant 2010 Suicide Case Legal Timeline

The episode with Ahirwar aired on October 23, 2010. After his death, an FIR was registered at the Prem Nagar police station in November 2010. It named Rakhi and others on charges that included abetment of suicide.

On November 18, 2010, the Bombay High Court declined to give Rakhi interim protection from arrest, saying it could not grant such relief. Her lawyer withdrew the plea. Her petition had said the hospital certified the death as natural and that no post-mortem was done.

In December 2010, a High Court bench stayed her arrest. It noted that no suicide note was left and that nothing on record showed the death was a suicide.
