Actor Ram Charan discussed the emergence of sports dramas in Indian cinema at the Peddi trailer launch. He credited Salman Khan and Aamir Khan for starting the trend with movies like Sultan and Dangal. On Monday, speaking at the Mumbai event, Ram Charan claimed that these movies give actors the self-assurance to experiment with the genre.

Ram Charan said, "Thanks to Salman Sir and Aamir Sir for giving us and paving the path for such films like Sultan and Dangal. It gave us so much confidence. Thank you both of you for starting this journey, and so it was believed that these kinds of films could work (sic)."

Ram Charan also discussed the process of creating Peddi, characterising it as physically and emotionally taxing. The actor revealed that he has been actively involved in the production. He also expressed gratitude to the film's director, Buchi Babu Sana, for his long commitment.

"I have been living with this film for the last two years, while Buchi Babu Sana has lived with it for almost five years," the Telugu superstar shared.

Ram Charan added a lighthearted touch to the discussion by recalling an injury he suffered while filming. He joked that the director was to blame for the ligament rupture he sustained in his hand while filming a wrestling scene. "I have a ligament tear in my hand because of Buchi Babu. Instead of trained artists, he brought real wrestlers, and I got injured. But it remains a beautiful memory."

About Ram Charan's Peddi Movie

Set against a rural backdrop, Peddi centres on a resolute peasant who uses sports to bring his community together and protect their pride from a formidable opponent. According to the director, the sports drama is inspired by a real-life event. The movie, led by Ram Charan, also stars Janhvi Kapoor,  Jagapathi Babu, Boman Irani and Divyenndu in key parts.

The movie is slated to open in theatres on June 4, 2026, with premiere shows to commence on June 3. AR Rahman's music has already been popular online, with tracks like Rai Rai Raa Raa and Chikiri Chikiri receiving millions of views on various platforms.
