MTV, one of the popular music channels that defined pop culture, is going off-air soon. Paramount Global announced that five of MTV channels-MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV and MTV Live, will shut down across the UK, Europe and other international markets by December 31, 2025. The news created a shockwave and disappointment among fans. But one of the first celebrities reacted to the shutting down announcement, ex-MTV Roadies judge Raghu Ram shared his thoughts. He said that an era has ended today. Ram also credited the channel for changing his career for good.
In a heartfelt video shared on Instagram, Raghu Ram reacted to the news and said, “MTV is shutting down its music channels, that is because viewership habits have changed, people have changed, the world has changed. Music is now being played at other places other than MTV… It is a very sad thing because I belong to Gen X and Gen X was also called the MTV generation. It was a very big thing for us. An era has ended today.”
He continued, “I was very, very into MTV in the 90s and early 2000s. In fact, MTV has played a very big role in my life.”
“Some even accuse me of being the reason MTV moved away from music. I don’t know how much truth there is in that. But you can see now, those who didn’t move internationally, those channels are shutting down. So MTV India, you’re welcome, I guess,” Raghu added.

A user said, “MTV was the heartbeat of our generation and Roadies, under your fire, Raghu sir, became a revolution. Those days shaped us, challenged us, and built our spirit. #MTV.” Another wrote, “MTV wasn’t about music it was about culture. And that’s why it shaped people and people like urselves shaped it in places like India. Traditional art and music played a massive role in human expression in anarchism in society today there are much more avenues to it, which is a positive. Sad for mtv End of an era.”
