Responding to Archana Puran Singh, Sanjay Dutt stated, "I earned wages there. Whether I made chairs or paper bags, I got paid. I even started a radio station, called Radio YCP, which played only inside the jail. I got paid for that as well. I did the radio program with topics to discuss, including comedy. Three or four other prisoners would write scripts for the show."
He further added that he directed murder convicts. The actor said, "I even started a theatre group where I was the director and murder convicts were my actors."

Sanjay also recalled an eerie encounter with a double murder convict, who worked as a barber.
Recalling the incident, the actor said, "The superintendent sent a guy named Mishra ji. As he pulled out his razor, I asked him how long has he been in jail. He told me 15 years. I asked him for what crime, and he replied ‘double murder.’ By then, his razor had already reached my neck. I immediately held his hand and stopped him. So, a double murder convict had a razor in his hand — that’s just an ordinary day in jail."
