Veteran actress B Saroja Devi passed away at the age of 87 due to age-related health issues at her residence in Malleswaram, Bengaluru, on Monday. Known for her work in over 200 films across Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Hindi cinema, Sarojadevi's demise has left not only her fans but the entire industry in shock. Actor Kamal Haasan became emotional upon hearing the news of her passing. He penned a note on his social media to express his feelings and recount memories he shared with her while working on the film Parthal Pasi Theerum.

Kamal Haasan Mourns Demise Of Saroja Devi

Taking to X handle, Kamal wrote a message in Tamil for late actress, which loosely translated to, "Wherever she saw me - at any age of mine - with fingers pinching my cheeks, with a voice calling me ‘dear son,’ she was another mother to me, Saroja Devi Amma. An artist who lived beyond the boundaries of language and region. She has passed away."

He added, "From the moments of the shooting of my second film ‘Parthal Pasi Theerum’ to countless unforgettable memories that ripple through my heart. My eyes well up. A mother’s heart that always wished to see me as the foremost. I bow and bid farewell."

Kamal Haasan worked as a child artist alongside B. Saroja Devi in the Tamil film Parthal Pasi Theerum in 1962. Directed by A Bhimsingh, the film also starred Sivaji Ganesan, Gemini Ganesan, Savitri and Sowcar Janaki.

Besides Kamal Haasan, several celebrities paid tribute to the actress, including Rajinikanth. He penned a note on his X that read, “The great actress Saroja Devi, who won the hearts of millions of fans, is no longer with us. May her soul rest in peace. #SarojaDevi.”

Saroja Devi entered the film industry at just 17 and got her a big break with the Kannada film Mahakavi Kalidasa in 1955. Later, she made her Telugu film debut with Pandurang Mahathyam in 1957. The Tamil film Nadodi Mannan brought her immense recognition and established her as one of the top actresses in Tamil cinema. With a career spanning over seven decades, Saroja Devi left a lasting impact.
