Dhurandhar 2: It has only been a week since Aditya Dhar's directorial Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna, and R. Madhavan, was released in theatres and has been ruling the box office. Amid its successful theatrical run, buzz about the sequel has already been surfacing online. Dhurandhar 2 will reach the audience sooner than expected. The makers teased the fans in the end credits of part 1 with the announcement that “Dhurandhar to be continued”, followed by a release date, March 19, 2026. Adding to the anticipation, R Madhavan shared details about his expanded role in the sequel.
R Madhavan Confirms Bigger Role in Dhurandhar 2
Madhavan revealed he wants to work with Aditya Dhar again and confirmed his role will be bigger in Dhurandhar 2. In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, the actor said, "Aditya Dhar is a monk. Through all the chaos of making a film so dense and intense, he would sit there for the anxieties to settle down. What a fine human being! After working with Aditya in Dhurandhar, I want to work with him again and again."
Talking about his character in the sequel, Madhavan revealed, “My screen presence is limited in the first part. But in the second part, which will release in March, there is a lot of my character as he trains Ranveer’s character in skills of espionage warfare.”

Reflecting on his successful 2025, he added, "I started the year with Hisaab Barabar. I am ending the year with Dhurandhar, which is one of the most important films of my career. I’ve had the privilege of working with the best directors in the most creative and productive phase of their career: Mani Ratnam, Kamal Haasan, Rajkumar Hirani, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Aanand L. Rai, and now Aditya Dhar. I couldn’t have asked for more."
Dhurandhar Box Office Report
Dhurandhar had an impressive opening with Rs 28 crore on its first day. Despite a 47% dip on the first Monday, the film has entered Rs 150 crore club, as per Sacnilk report. Dhurandhar draws inspiration from real-life incidents involving geopolitical tensions and several covert operations conducted by India's RAW. One of them is Operation Lyari, a government-backed crackdown on underworld gangs and criminal networks in the Lyari area of Karachi. In the movie, Madhavan portrayed the role of an Intelligence Bureau Chief Ajay Sanyal, who leads a high-stakes mission to dismantle a terror network in Pakistan, but had limited screen time.
