Thudarum: Thudarum hit the big screens on April 25, 2025. The Malayalam movie, which was directed by Tharun Moorthy, continues to perform well at the box office. However, a lot of people couldn't help but question whether this Mohanlal-starring crime thriller was based on a true story. Some even connected it to Kerala's Kevin murder case.
Thudarum director Tharun Moorthy responded to these reports and disclosed whether the movie was based on a true story in an interview with OTTPlay. He made it clear that no one's personal life is the basis for Thudarum. The director clarified that the crew solely consulted records of honour killings in Kerala in order to have a deeper comprehension of the conflicts and emotional journeys involved.
What Is The Kerala's Kevin Murder Case?
In case you didn't know, Kevin was a Keralan Dalit Christian. A member of the higher caste, his wife's family kidnapped and killed him in 2018. This heinous incident made headlines throughout the state after the court subsequently declared the case to be an honour killing.
About Malayalam Movie Thudarum
Benz, a cab driver who leads a modest existence, is the subject of Mohanlal's led crime thriller, Thudarum. Unknowingly, he is drawn into a criminal activity after his vehicle is utilized for smuggling. Benz discovers a cover-up by dishonest officers after discovering a body in his trunk that turns out to be his missing son Pavi. Devastated and betrayed, he seeks retribution, and the entire film follows his murderous rampage.
The post-theatrical streaming rights of this huge smash appear to have been acquired by Jio Hotstar. Thudarum's worldwide gross to date is an astounding Rs 220 crore. It is currently the third highest-grossing Malayalam movie ever, after Manjummel Boys and Empuraan.

Thudarum has performed exceptionally well, particularly in Kerala, which has led to the postponement of the digital release. Thudarum has made over Rs 108.80 crore in its home state alone, according to a recent IBTimes report.
