Suniel Shetty is one of the most celebrated actors in the film industry. Having made his acting debut in 1992 with Balwaan movie, he rose to fame more with his remarkable performances in movies like Mohra, Dhadkan, Hera Pheri and others. One of his iconic roles in the movie Border also added significant milestones to his career. But did you know Suniel refused to be part of filmmaker JP Dutta’s movie at first? Yes, you read it right. Suniel Shetty, who turned the role of Bhairav Singh into a classic one, opened up about the initial rejection of the Border movie. In a conversation with Radio Nasha, the actor shared, "I rejected the role because I had heard that JP Dutta was a very strict director, aur gaaliyan bhi de dete the if he got upset. I myself was very hot-tempered. When JP ji came to meet me, I told him, ‘I’ll get back to you.’ I then told my secretary, ‘I won’t be able to do it, kyunki usne gaali de di toh main haath uthaa dunga’ (because if he abuses me, I’ll raise my hand).”

Further revealing what made him accept the offer and how JP Dutta reached her mother-in-law to convince him. He continued, "I don’t like to spoil relationships with anyone, so I thought, forget it. But JP ji was so adamant about casting me that he reached out to Bharat Shah, who knew my mother-in-law. So, through my mother-in-law, the film came back to me. She made me sit down and convinced me to do the film. I told her these are my conditions—and if any such situation arises, I’ll walk out.”

Suniel also shared how fate has other plans in store for him. He stated, “From the very first day, JP ji and I clicked. We got along like fire." Sheiding more light on the bond, Kesari Veer added, director stood by him even during difficult phases in his career and offered him work without even a second thought.

About Border movie: Released in 1997, the film is set during the 1971 India-Pakistan war. The storyline and performances made Border a landmark in Indian cinema. Alongside Suniel Shetty, Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, and Akshaye Khanna played pivotal roles. Besides the film's cast and narrative, JP Dutta's movie captivated the audience with its musical score, which is still evergreen like Sandese Aate Hai.

Following the success, makers are coming up with a sequel after almost 28 years. Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Suniel Shetty's son Ahan Shetty.
