Honey Singh Makhna Song Controversy: A court in Mohali has officially quashed the First Information Report (FIR) against rapper and singer Yo Yo Honey Singh over his 2018 track Makhna. The case, which had been ongoing for six years, was finally closed after both complainants confirmed they had no objection to ending the matter. The FIR was originally filed in 2019 at Mataur police station, after objections were raised over certain lyrics in the song. The complaints were registered by Punjab State Women’s Commission chairperson Manisha Gulati and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Lakhwinder Kaur. They alleged that some of the words used in Makhna were indecent and offensive towards women.

Following this, the case was booked under various sections, including IPC Sections 294 (obscene acts in public places) and 509 (words or gestures intended to insult the modesty of a woman). It also invoked Section 67 of the IT Act, which deals with publishing or transmitting obscene material, along with Section 6 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act. The matter was later referred to the National Lok Adalat in Mohali for review. During the hearings, both complainants gave statements making it clear they did not wish to pursue the case any further. ASI Lakhwinder Kaur had submitted her statement in 2024, while Manisha Gulati gave hers in 2025. With both confirming they had no objection to closure, the Lok Adalat accepted the closure report and put an end to the proceedings.

Meanwhile, back in 2019, the controversy around Makhna had sparked a wide debate on lyrics in Indian music and their impact on society. The Punjab Women’s Commission had even demanded a ban on the song at the time. Honey Singh, known for his hit party anthems, faced strong criticism from several quarters, with campaigners highlighting the need for more responsible content in popular music.

The closure marks the end of a long legal battle that began more than half a decade ago, allowing the artist to finally move past the chapter.
