Zubeen Garg Death Case: The Assam government has formed a judicial commission to probe the death of popular Assamese singer. As reported by PTI, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma constituted a member inquiry committee led by the Gauhati High Court judge Saumitra Saikia. She will submit the report within six months, the order issued by the Political Department. The order was shared by the Chief Minister’s office on X. The commission will probe into the ‘facts and circumstances’, leading to the death of Garg in Singapore on September 19.
The one-member panel will also check on if there are any lapses, acts of omission or commission or negligence on the part of any person, authority or institution in connection with the case. Besides these, it will ‘ascertain whether any external factors, including the possibility of foul play, conspiracy, or unlawful acts, contributed to or were connected with the incident.’
Zubeen Garg died under mysterious circumstances in Singapore while swimming in the sea. He had gone to a Southeast Asian nation to attend the 4th edition of the Northeast India, which was organised by Shyamkanu Mahanta and his company.
The Assam CID is also investigating Garg’s death case. More than 60 FIRs were lodged across the state against Mahanta and around 10 others. Four people have been arrested, including the singer's manager Siddharth Sharma, band members Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, Amritprabha Mahanta and event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta. They have been sent to a 14-day police remand.

Recently, there has been another twist to the investigation. Late singer’s bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami has alleged that the late singer’s manager and festival organiser might have poisoned him. As per the witness testimony recorded under Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), Goswami stated that Siddharth Sharma’s conduct in the hours leading up to Zubeen Garg's death in Singapore was suspicious. Siddharth Sharma, who is an accused in the FIR, faced serious non-bailable charges, including criminal conspiracy, murder and culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
