Nitin Desai, Bollywood's noted art director, was found dead in his art studio in Maharashtra's Karjat on August 2. The postmortem of Nitin Chandrakant Desai was conducted by a team led by four doctors on Wednesday with preliminary findings confirming the cause of death due to hanging and has thus ruled out the incident to be a case of suicide. The National Award art director worked in blockbuster hit films including 'Jodha Akbar' and 'Lagaan.'

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the police officials confirmed the incident to be a suicide case and said, "Postmortem of art director Nitin Desai has been conducted by a team of four doctors. As per preliminary findings, the cause of death is due to hanging. Further investigation is underway."

Earlier, the body of Nitin Desai was brought to JJ Hospital by Khalapur Police for postmortem. He was found dead in his studio in Raigad district on Wednesday morning. According to the officials, Nitin Desai was found in his ND Studio which is located around 80 km outside Mumbai.

Desai's close friend and Maharashtra's MLA Mahesh Baldi revealed that the art director was facing financial strain. He said, "He was under financial stress, which may have driven him to end his life."

The Raigad Superintendent of Police, Somnath Gharge said on Wednesday, "His family members have told us that his last rites will take place at ND Studios. His body has been taken for postmortem to JJ Hospital."

He added, "The devices we have found at the location including mobile phones and other stuff and electronic devices have been seized and we are investigating them. We have also taken the statement of his caretaker and driver and are doing the investigations."

Nitin Desai is known for his innovative studio design work in Bollywood and has collaborated with top Hindi cinema directors including Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Rajkumar Hirani, and Ashutosh Gowarikar.

The late celebrated art director got famous for his work in films including 'Lagaan', 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam', 'Devdas', 'Jodha Akbar', 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' and several others. He has won three Filmfare Awards and four National Film Awards for Best Art Direction.
