Akshay Kumar took center stage at the box office on October 6, 2023, with the release of 'Mission Raniganj,' a film that has captivated the audience's attention for its portrayal of a real-life incident at the Raniganj Coalfield. Directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, the movie stars Parineeti Chopra in a significant role. This cinematic masterpiece narrates the remarkable journey of the late Shri Jaswant Singh Gill, a key figure in the daring rescue operation that saved miners trapped in a waterlogged coal mine in Raniganj in November 1989. Despite a lukewarm box-office reception, the film has now received praise from R Madhavan.
On Friday, Madhavan took to X and wrote in Hindi, "Yesterday, I went to the theater and watched this movie. What an amazing film it was! We have so many heroes in our country that we don't know about. What are you all doing? This opportunity won't come again. Go and watch this film in theaters soon. Don't regret missing it later."

Soon, Akshay responded to Madhavan on Platform X. He wrote, "Thank you so much Maddy for showering so much praise and love on the film."

A snippet of Jagran English's review of the film read, "Akshay Kumar leaves an indelible impression right from the start in the opening scene of Mission Raniganj. While perfection may be elusive, this action hero certainly nails his entry. What's remarkable is that he skillfully blends in humor with his savage retorts and actions. The resounding slap he delivered to a thug in the initial sequence elicited such exuberant cheers from the audience. Throughout the movie, Akshay Kumar consistently maintains his Punjabi accent, a noteworthy aspect of this thriller. This is particularly evident in his interactions with Parineeti, adding an extra layer of authenticity to the film."
