Rana Daggubati has taken a subtle dig at Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal. In a recent interview, the South superstar claimed that his character in the web series Rana Naidu was started to be seen as ‘decent’ and acceptable after Animal released. Earlier, the actor claimed that he became ‘less popular’ after the release of Rana Naidu. He then claimed that the topic of child abuse in the family in the gangster drama interested him in doing the project.

In the podcast Rawtalks, Rana said “Everyone was freaking the hell out. Then Animal released. Then I was like, ‘Hey, now I look like a decent guy’. What’s wrong with you?”

Earlier in Actors' Roundtable With Rajeev Masand, Rana Daggubati also gave the reason to do the web series. He said, “I was always interested in topics that are taboo to society that you can tell in a very mainstream form. Because at some point, we try to tell it in cinema and it becomes very arthouse, it becomes a sub-genre in some ways. But this had child abuse in a gangster drama set inside of a family. To me, that was very interesting. It’s family drama that everyone gets. It has topics that you don’t want to talk about or spoken very boldly and harshly so that was the first reason I got onto it.”

He also said, “I became less popular in my case. That very rarely happens but it did. Somewhere, it was a pandemic idea where we were like what do we do now? We don’t know when cinemas are opening up, we might not have a job for a couple of years. How do we get cracking on this?”
