Pakistani actress Saba Qamar Zaman, who appeared in Hindi Medium alongside Irrfan Khan, recently revealed that she turned down multiple Deepika Padukone starrer movies. The star shared that she rejected some of the big banner movies like Love Aaj Kal, Delhi 6 and Cocktail. She shared that she wouldn’t have been noticed if she played the second lead role in Padukone’s film. She also admitted that rejecting Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal was her stupidity.
In an interview with Digital Magazine, Saba said “I even auditioned for Delhi 6, but my mother did not approve. As for Love Aaj Kal, it was my stupidity.”
While recalling her conversation with Imtiaz Ali’s assistant, she said, “I told her ‘Deepika hai, tou mera tou second lead character hoga, main tou nazar bhi nahi aongi, tou maine nahi ye character karna (There is Deepika Padukone in the film, so I would be the second lead character and no one would even notice me, so I’m not doing this character)’.”
“When the film was released, I watched it with my friends and realised I had made a huge mistake,” the actress added.
In Hindi Medium, Saba Qamar was starred opposite Irrfan Khan, which gave immense popularity to her in Bollywood. The movie also features Deepak Dobriyal, Tillotama Shome, Neha Dhupia, Dishita Sehgal, Amrita Singh, Sanjay Suri, Mallika Dua, Sumit Gulati and Sanjana Sanghi to name a few. The film was one of the biggest hits in 2017 as it earned Rs 322.4 Crore at the box office. Saket Chaudhary’s directorial is currently streaming on Prime Video.
On the other hand, Saba Qamar is popularly known for her work in Cheekh, Mrs. and Mr. Shameem, Baaghi, Kamli, Sar-e-Rah, Fraud, Dastaan, Ghabrana Nahi Hai, Gunah, Besharam, Lahore Se Aagey and Bunty I Love You to name a few.
