Maine Pyar Kiya 2: Sooraj Barjatya gave Bollywood one of the cult movies Maine Pyar Kiya, which redefined the Indian cinema with its storyline and memorable performances. The family drama starred Salman Khan as Prem alongside Bhagyashree. Amid the demand for the follow-up, Sooraj Barjatya shared his plan for the sequel. He stated that he won't cast Salman for the sequel as he would prefer fresh cast.
Sooraj Barjatya also delivered Hum Aapke Hain Koun, which starred Salman opposite Madhuri Dixit. On casting duo again and sequels of his movie, in a conversation with Times of India, he said, “I would not want to make a sequel with them, and even if I were offered to make a sequel to Maine Pyar Kiya, it would have a fresh cast."
Emphasing his reason behind not casting Salman and Madhuri for sequels, he said he is waiting for good scripts to cast them.
He stated, “Salman and I share the same level of friendship even after so many years. He might be a star for the masses and puts up that persona, but at heart, he is a simple guy who likes to sit outside the vanity van in a chair and interact with the crew. If there is a good script with characters that suit them, I would work with Salman and Madhuri. One wants to work with stars, but I have always believed that a good script is bigger than anything else. After reaching a certain age, you trust a good film more than a star."
All About Maine Pyar Kiya: The romantic drama movie was released across the country in 1989, emerged as one of the classic films of Indian cinema. Helmed by Sooraj Barjatya, it starred Alok Nath, Mohnish Bahl, Reema Lagoo, Rajeev Verma and Ajit Vachani. The movie's storyline captivated the audience with the theme of friendship between the central characters Prem and Suman which turned into love.
