About Laapataa Ladies
Filmmaker Kiran Rao explored the possibility of submitting the film for consideration at the Oscars next year. The narrative of the film, set in rural India, centers around the mystery of two missing brides. Slated for a theatrical release on March 1 this year, the film offers a compelling storyline.
Laapataa Ladies had its global premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) last year, where it garnered a standing ovation. This social drama stars Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, and Chhaya Kadam in pivotal roles. Presented by Jio Studios and produced by Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions, the film is adapted from Biplab Goswami's award-winning story.
During a recent screening of the film in Delhi, Kiran Rao stressed, "Our primary recognition comes from the audience's response at the box office. If the viewers and the nation appreciate our work, that would be the greatest accolade for us." She mentioned that they would contemplate submitting the film for the Oscars next year based on the audience's response. She reportedly added "There is a specific community tasked with assessing and selecting the finest films of the year, and if our film is deemed worthy, we will submit it for the prestigious Oscars. However, for now, we are eagerly anticipating the recognition we are yet to receive on March 1, 2024, hinting at the film's release."
