Samantha Ruth Prabhu starrer will be available on Amazon Prime Video, where the film will be released on May 12. According to a report of News18, Amazon Prime has acquired the streaming rights of 'Shaakuntalam' in all languages including Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada.

According to the report, the film was made on a massive budget of Rs 60 crores, where half of the amount was recovered by selling the digital streaming rights of the film, whereas the other half was in complete loss. According to several trade analysts, the makers of the film have encountered a loss of Rs 20 crores already.

Earlier, the producer of the film Dil Raju spoke about the failure of the film and said, "Shaakuntalam came as a big jerk in my 25-year career in the film industry." The producer openly accepted the failure as he genuinely believed in the content of the film, however, was proved to be wrong.

Dil Raju blamed his judgment to be wrong for the film's failure on the big screen where four days ahead of the film's release, the producer already received mixed reviews from the masses with the release of the trailer of the film. He said, "So, from Day 1 of the film, I was ready."

The film is an adaptation of the historic author Kalidas's critically acclaimed play of the same name and was produced under the banners of Gunaa Teamworks by Dil Raju. 'Shaakuntalam' also stars Mohan Babu, Aditi Balan, Ananya Nagalla, Gautami, Prakash Raj, Madhoo, Kabir Bedi, and Jissu Sengupta in pivotal roles.
