South Korean boy band SEVENTEEN has made history by becoming the first Kpop group appointed as UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors for Youth. The group's landmark appointment took place at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, where they pledged a significant donation of $1 million (approximately Rs 8 crore) to support global youth initiatives. This initiative marks a pivotal moment in the band's commitment to empowering young people worldwide.

During the ceremony, Joshua, speaking on behalf of SEVENTEEN, emphasized the importance of pursuing dreams without hesitation. He highlighted their new initiative, the Global Youth Grant Scheme, a collaborative effort with UNESCO aimed at fostering youth empowerment globally.

Joshua expressed gratitude for the honour, stating, "We are humbled and overwhelmed to stand before you as UNESCO’s Goodwill Ambassador for Youth. Representing today’s young generation is a tremendous privilege."

SEVENTEEN, comprised of members S.Coups, Jeonghan, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, The8, Seungkwan, Vernon and Dino, has been actively engaged with youth through their music and global outreach efforts. Their participation at the 13th UNESCO Youth Forum in November 2023 further underscored their commitment to advocating for youth issues on an international platform.

In addition to their ambassadorial role, SEVENTEEN plans to engage in various campaigns and events to promote UNESCO’s initiatives worldwide. Their involvement reflects a deep-seated commitment to fostering a supportive community and empowering young individuals to pursue their aspirations boldly.
