Samantha Ruth Prabhu-starrer 'Shaakuntalam' is all set for its OTT release after its theatrical run. The movie revolves around the epic love story of Shakuntala and King Dushyant from Mahabharata. Apart from Samantha, the movie also stars Dev Mohan in the lead role.

'Shaakuntalam' will reportedly release on May 12 on Prime Video.

Apart from Samantha and Dev, the movie also stars Sachin Khedekar, Kabir Bedi, Dr M Mohan Babu, Prakash Raj, Madhubala, Gautami, Aditi Balan, Ananya Nagalla, Jisshu Sengupta.

Meanwhile, Allu Arjun's daughter Allu Arha made her acting debut in 'Shaakuntalam' and was seen in a cameo role. She played the role of Prince Bharata in the film.

At an event, Samantha revealed that she first rejected Shaakuntalam because she did not have the confidence to play the character. "I had first said no because I was doing The Family Man 2, in which I had a real role. Since childhood, Disney has been my favourite genre. Irrespective of whether I am happy or sad, I would watch Disney films. So, I did not have confidence that I could play Shakuntala, a princess, a symbol of perfection," Samantha said as quoted by PTI.

"I was scared. As you see, in the last three years, I have been taking on a lot of challenges. Then I spoke to the producer, Dil Raju, who had a lot of confidence (in me). I thought of taking it (up) as a challenge because it is my only chance to play a role that I dreamt of as a child," she added.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Samantha will star in the Indian spin-off of the American web series 'Citadel'. The show will also star Varun Dhawan in the lead role and it will be directed by the filmmaker duo, Raj and DK. Both Samantha and Varun have started shooting for the web series and also attended the London premiere of 'Citadel' with Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden.

Samantha will also star in 'Kushi' opposite Vijay Deverakonda. The movie will release on September 1, 2023.
