Shah Rukh Khan, the undisputed King of Bollywood, made history on May 5, 2025, by becoming the first Indian male actor to walk the red carpet at the prestigious Met Gala. He made headlines for sporting an all black outfit designed by famed Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee. Khan’s debut at the Met Gala immediately made waves in the fashion world, with praise coming from critics and fans alike. Adding to the celebratory buzz was Amul’s signature topical tribute, which affectionately crowned him as “India’s Biggest Galakaar.”

Amul, known for its clever takes on current events through its iconic cartoon ads, captured the essence of SRK’s Met Gala debut with humour and heart. Their latest illustration featured a cartoon version of Shah Rukh in his dramatic Met Gala outfit — complete with his Bengal Tiger Cane in one hand and a buttered slice of bread in the other. Shared across Amul's social media channels, the cartoon tribute was captioned "India's Biggest Galakaar!" and included the tag line, "Always in fashion."  The clever pun on the Hindi word “kalakaar” (artist) emphasized Shah Rukh’s ever-evolving, boundary-breaking presence on the global stage.

SRK’s ensemble was a true testament to Indian craftsmanship and design. He wore a luxurious black coat made of Tasmanian superfine wool, padded shoulders, star shaped Japanese horn buttons, with an elaborate engraving on one side. This structured piece was paired with a soft, crepe de chine V-neck silk shirt and matching superfine wool trousers. Not to be overshadowed, a satin pleated kamarbandh (sash) added vintage elegance to this look.

However, it was the details that took the outfit to another level of perfection. Shah Rukh accessorized with multi-layered oxidized jewelry, chunky silver rings, and his signature cool black sunglasses. The highlight of the accessories was a big neck chain with a ‘K’ in the centre — a node to his nickname "King Khan". Completing the look was a sleek black Patek Philippe timepiece reportedly worth Rs 21 crore, underscoring his timeless elegance and star power.

SRK also shared a heartfelt note on social media, thanking Sabyasachi and his team for helping him navigate a space that was unfamiliar. In an interview with TIME, he discussed the importance of representation at global events like the Met Gala. “It’s not just simple entertainment. I am a memory from home… The diaspora made me the star I am,” he said, while also adding that India is trying to assert itself in many ways on the world stage, and Indian performers should be seen at these events.

The Met Gala, often referred to as the ‘biggest party of the year,’ welcomed Shah Rukh with open arms, and he did not disappoint. His appearance marked a cultural milestone — not just for Indian cinema, but for global fashion. As Amul perfectly summed it up, Shah Rukh Khan remains ‘always in fashion,’ proving once again that style, substance, and stardom are eternal when it comes to India’s biggest galakaar.
