Shah Rukh Khan’s luxurious multi-storey bungalow with a breathtaking sea-view, Mannat, is not only a simple house, but also a famous landmark in Mumbai. But SRK’s humble abode came into the limelight when an activist recently filed a complaint about illegal construction work happening in Mannat. Reportedly, on Friday, a joint team of forest department officials and BMC met Shah Rukh Khan’s staff and inspected his house. Lately, SRK has shifted to a nearby location and is living on four floors of the luxe Puja Casa building in the Pali Hill area of Bandra with his family. It is owned by the film producer Vashu Bhagnani.
Shah Rukh Khan’s staff assured the government officials that all the documents related to the permits would be duly submitted. The actor’s manager, Pooja Dadlani, also told Times Of India, "There are no complaints. All work is going on as per guidelines." A forest department official told the publisher, "A team did carry out a site inspection as we received a complaint about renovation permissions. A report will be prepared based on the findings and submitted soon." It was also mentioned that the BMC members were part of the investigating team just to support the forest officials.

Activist Santosh Daundkar filed a complaint regarding the construction at the property. Y P Singh, a former IPS officer, alleged that Mannat originally comprised a heritage building, Villa Vienna, and in 2005, a seven-storey annexe was built. To bypass the Urban Land Ceiling Act, 12 small flats were approved but later merged into one luxury residence. Y P Singh alleged municipal collusion and said the owners must now restore the flats.
Shah Rukh Khan has been living in Mannat with his family for decades now. It is a multi-million dollar property, which was designed by his wife, Gauri Khan, who is an interior designer. The structure was built in 1914 and is now undergoing construction to add two more floors.
