Shekhar Suman has come forward to defend renowned filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali amid rumours about his anger issues on set. Bhansali, known for his grand sets and storytelling, is gearing up for his OTT debut with the period-drama series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Suman, who plays Nawab Zulfikar in the series, addressed Bhansali's temperament in a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, drawing parallels with legendary filmmakers like Raj Kapoor, K. Asif and Mehboob Khan.

"Perfectionists are always short-tempered because they get impatient with everybody else for not being at their level," Suman stated, emphasising that Bhansali's perfectionism drives his passion and creativity. He added, "I know of so many people who are legends in their craft but are also short-tempered. So, it doesn't matter. It is all fair."

Suman's comments come in response to recent discussions about Bhansali's approach on set, particularly after actor Ranbir Kapoor shared his experience working with Bhansali. Kapoor, who assisted Bhansali on Black and later made his acting debut in Saawariya, described Bhansali as a "hard task-master," highlighting the intense nature of their collaboration.

Heeramandi boasts an ensemble cast including Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Sharmin Segal, Fardeen Khan, Farida Jalal and Adhyayan Suman. The series is set to premiere on Netflix India on May 1.
